Bungie shows off 'Destiny' characters on video

"Halo" creator Bungie has been sparing with details on the gameplay of its next big project, "Destiny," but liberal with concept art. The veil was lifted a little further Friday with the release of a video showing characters making the jump from concept to in-game model.

The video was shown at Bungie's panel at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. While it doesn't contain any actual gameplay, there's plenty of info to be extracted from the character models and animations.

For instance, the "Cabal" fighters are heavily armored and likely fill the role of tank. The three classes shown at the end ? Titan, Warlock, and Hunter ? fit neatly into the "warrior, wizard, rogue" archetypes already in place in thousands of games.

Sharp-eyed viewers will identify several influences, from "Warhammer 40K" and "Star Wars" to manga like "Appleseed" to, of course, Bungie's previous games. A batch of concept art was also released, which Kotaku has kindly collected here.

More substantial information about the game itself will likely be given out at E3 in June.

'Rebuilding Together' helps make one family's home more handicap ...

Rebuilding Together North Central Florida celebrated the completion of a community project in Alachua County to assist a local family with their handicapped son.

The project was dedicated to renovating the family home of Doris Tellado, Jose Jimenez and their two children Alejandro and Gabriel, who relies on a wheelchair for mobility.

RD Bonner, executive director of Rebuilding Together, said the organization focuses on repairing anything keeping a family from being safe or healthy in their home.

The family struggled to provide accessibility needs for their son and through this project those needs were addressed, he said. Tight corners and narrow doorways were widened, Bonner said, helping not only the son but the rest of the family.

Rebuilding Together partnered with Charles Perry Partners, Inc. to work on the project, which took about a year to complete, Bonner said.

A complete addition was built onto the family?s house, including a wheelchair-friendly bathroom and wheel tracks throughout the house for wheelchair accessibility.

?Through Charles Perry they were able to install a track system that has totally changed the lives of this family,? Bonner said. ?Gabriel can now get everywhere he needs to be safely, and we just feel great about that.?

Bonner said the project is part of a year0round effort to fill the need for home repair in North Central Florida, including several projects that are lined up for April. Community residents wanting to get involved are encouraged to visit Rebuilding Together?s website.

Terri Herring Releases Statement On Her Nomination To Mississippi ...

Terri Herring sent a press release via Keith Plunkett today, thanking Gov. Phil Bryant for nominating her to the state Board of Health and touting her credentials for the position.

The release reads:

Terri Herring thanked Governor Phil Bryant today for his trust in nominating her to the Mississippi State Board of Health.

?I am honored by the confidence Governor Bryant has placed in me to serve in this very important post,? said Herring. ?The past twenty six years of my life have been dedicated to health issues and health care, and I am pleased to have an opportunity to continue that as a member of the State Board of Health.?

Herring and husband Clint own TrustCare in Ridgeland, Mississippi. TrustCare is a medical provider, specializing in walk-in urgent care, and occupational medicine. The Herrings have run the Kerioth Corporation, a family-owned real estate and development company since 1984. They are also partnered with St. Dominic Hospital to promote fitness through ?The Club?, with locations across metro Jackson and one in Hernando, MS.

Sister Dorothea Sondgeroth, Associate Executive Director of St. Dominic Health Services, recommended Herring and called her an ?outstanding nominee?. Sondgeroth said Herring has been a key asset in promoting women?s health issues and healthy living in Mississippi.

?Terri is a devoted mother and knows the importance of women?s health and has been heavily involved in community efforts that enhance family life and women?s health,? said Sondgeroth. ?I have known Terri for sixteen years and have worked with her as she championed the cause of protecting women?s and infants health and well-being.?

Herring has assisted young pregnant women across Mississippi through pregnancy resource centers to receive prenatal education, medical care, and financial assistance. She distributes $200,000 annually to resource centers across the state as founder and President of the Choose Life Advisory Committee.

Herring has been a featured speaker on women?s health issue in articles and on television across the globe. She is sought after as an advocate for women?s health, and on the subjects of fetal mortality, abstinence and reproductive education.

Herring is a controversial appointment, and one that I believe Bryant erred in making.

Herring is a devoted advocate for the pro-life movement, and she has a compelling story to tell about how she became involved. In the few times I?ve been around her, she?s been a delightfully pleasant person.

That said, Herring is a polarizing and politicized figure. In many ways, she is the embodiment of the pro-life movement in Mississippi and the banner-carrier for the effort to shut down the state?s only abortion clinic. You can love her or hate her, but you cannot deny that she is politically charged.

That?s one thing we don?t need on boards like the Board of Health.

If Bryant wants a pro-life member appointed to the board, then he should have no problem finding one. I know a number of pro-life doctors, nurses, hospital employees, attorneys and business leaders who would be terrific choices without introducing a polarizing presence into the board of health.

Understand that I?m not saying Herring has a polarizing personality or that she cannot be a professional participant. However, given the role she has chosen for herself, Bryant should choose someone different for the role on the Board of Health.

His choice here is clearly more about political pandering than it is about choosing a qualified, pro-life candidate to help oversee health care in Mississippi.

Burke leads UM rally over Kansas, 87-85 in OT

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) ? Trey Burke never doubted he could lead Michigan to its deepest NCAA tournament run since the Fab Five era.

Not after a scoreless first half. Not when the Wolverines trailed top-seeded Kansas by 14 with less than 7 minutes left ? or by 5 with 21 seconds left.

And definitely not when he got the ball in his hands and the seconds draining away.

Burke scored all 23 of his points in the second half and overtime, including a long, tying 3-pointer in the final moments of regulation as Michigan rallied to beat Kansas 87-85 in the South Regional semifinals Friday night.

"We never lost faith out there," Burke said. "We stuck it out together."

Ben McLemore had 20 points to lead the Jayhawks (31-6), who looked to be on their way to a third straight regional final before Michigan's improbable rally. Instead, they became the third No. 1 seed to fall in this tournament, joining Gonzaga and Indiana.

"Well, this will certainly go down as one of the toughest games that obviously we've been a part of and I've been a part of," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "But props to Michigan for making all the plays late."

That's for sure.

The fourth-seeded Wolverines (29-7) were down five when Tim Hardaway Jr. missed a 3-pointer with 35 seconds left, but Glenn Robinson III won a scramble for the ball and hit a reverse layup to force Kansas to win the game at the free throw line.

The Jayhawks couldn't do it. Burke's tying shot ? he pulled up from well beyond the arc just left of the key ? came with 4.2 seconds left after Elijah Johnson missed a free throw and Michigan got the rebound.

Moments earlier, with 21 seconds remaining, Johnson had hit two from the line to keep the Kansas lead at five. Burke had scored on a layup to get Michigan back to within three.

"We never had the mindset that we were going to lose the game," Burke said. "When we were down 14, we knew anything could still happen. It's March, anything can happen."

Michigan went to back-to-back championship games a generation ago with the Fab Five led by Chris Webber, Juwan Howard and Jalen Rose. But the folks in Ann Arbor will be talking for years about the shot by Burke under the huge video board Cowboys Stadium, just down the road from where Howard and Rose played their last game together with Ray Jackson and Jimmy King in a regional final loss to Arkansas in 1994.

The Wolverines will play Florida in the regional final Sunday. The third-seeded Gators beat 15th-seeded Florida Gulf Coast 62-50.

"Just to be able to get this program back to the Elite Eight, it feels good," Burke said. "But we want to go further."

The lead changed hands five times in overtime ? the first OT game of the tournament ? the last when Mitch McGary, who led Michigan with 25 points and 14 rebounds, hit a short jumper with Johnson in his face to put Michigan ahead 83-82.

The Jayhawks got a stop and had about 9 seconds to tie or win, but a jumbled possession ended with Naadir Tharpe missing a running jumper at the buzzer.

"We played like we were trying to hold onto something instead of just continuing to play," Johnson said.

Burke had eight points in the closing 14-4 run that tied the game, then gave Michigan its first lead since early with another long 3-pointer to make it 79-78 early in overtime. He hit a jumper on the next possession as well. After failing to score in the first 20 minutes, Burke ended his drought by scoring eight straight points early in the second half to momentarily cut the deficit to two.

"In the second half, coach told me to be more aggressive so I looked for my shot more," he said.

But Kansas restored a 10-point lead built on controlling the paint, this time with a 3-pointer and a tomahawk dunk on a breakaway by McLemore and a three-point play from Johnson.

Johnson, who picked up three fouls in just three minutes of playing time in the first half, gave Kansas its biggest lead at 68-54 with a 3-pointer from the corner with just under 7 minutes left.

Travis Releford had 16 points for the Jayhawks, while Jeff Withey had 12 points and eight rebounds.

McLemore didn't score again after going to the bench with his fourth foul with 8 minutes remaining.

"We had chance to seal the game, but we made some bonehead plays late," Releford said.

Kansas pushed out to a 10-point lead early by dominating around the basket. McLemore's first basket was the first outside the paint as the Jayhawks scored 34 of their 40 first-half points from inside while shooting 69 percent.

Withey put Kansas ahead 29-19 with a turnaround shot that had McGary shrugging at a teammate and saying, "I'm trying."

McGary wasn't having nearly as much trouble on the offensive end, leading the Wolverines with 11 points and five rebounds in the first half. He picked up where he left off in the third round against Virginia Commonwealth, when he had season highs of 21 points and 14 rebounds.

Michigan pulled within 40-34 at the half when Nik Stauskas hit a 3-pointer and had chance for a four-point play when McLemore bumped him on the shot. But he missed the free throw.

No matter. In the end, Burke was Fab-u-lous and the Wolverines are one win away from the Final Four.

Do certain occasions supersede parenting time? | Step Talk

Does anyone have a CO that establishes precedence over the regular visitation schedule for special occasions such as weddings and funerals?

SO hasn't officially asked me yet, but we did a lot of wedding planning yesterday. We decided on a date, a church, a venue for the reception, a rough estimate of how big it would be, and how we would pay for it. We looked at rings online. I'm really excited, but of course I can't tell anyone yet as he hasn't asked me!!

Another thing we discussed is what we are going to do if BM does not allow SS to come as the date we picked lands on her weekend (as the schedule currently is). We decided there is nothing we can do about it. Since it's 2 years away, and BM is taking SO to court soon, I was wondering if it's possible to amend the CO to include verbiage such as "Weddings, graduation ceremonies, and funerals of SS's immediate relatives - parents, step-parents, grandparents, step-grandparents, siblings, half siblings, and step-siblings - supersedes parenting time. SO must relinquish parenting time from 8am to 8pm for such events occurring on BM's side of the family and BM must relinquish parenting time from 8am to 8pm for such events occurring on SO's side of the family. Should 2 occasions be on the same day, each parent will make every reasonable effort for SS to attend both events. If the events occur at exactly the same time on the same day, SO and BM will abide by the regular visitation schedule."

Thoughts?

Seven Stocks People Hate but Wall Street Loves

Money Morning Article of the Week

by David Zeiler, Associate Editor, Money Morning

At first blush, it might seem like a bad idea to invest in companies people hate, but it turns out such stocks often outperform the market.

Every year, Harris Interactive takes a survey of the 60 most visible U.S. companies to measure their public reputations. Each company gets a score from 1 to 100.

Harris says companies that score in the 55-64 range have "poor" reputations; those that fall in the 50-54 range are "very poor;" and those with scores below 50 are critical.

Follow up:

And yet many of the companies at the bottom of the list did surprisingly well over the past six months. The stocks with the 10 worst reputations - America's most hated big companies - posted an average gain of more than 17%.

That's nearly triple the 6% gain of the Standard & Poor's 500 Index, or the 6.16% gain of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, over the same period.

In fact, only one stock in the bottom 10 of the Harris survey declined - the goat of the 2010 Gulf oil spill, BP plc (NYSE ADR: BP), which fell 4.6%.

Here's a look at the seven best-performing stocks that are among the bottom 10 in the Harris survey.

Seven Hated Stocks That Beat the Market

  1. American International Group Inc. (NYSE: AIG): Congratulations are in order for insurance giant AIG, which is celebrating its fifth consecutive year as the Most Hated Company in America. The nation has been slow to forgive AIG for its role in the 2008 financial crisis, although a recent PR campaign has helped a little. The company's score of 48.57, which put AIG's reputation in the "critical" category, was actually an improvement over last year's pitiful 46.18. Meanwhile, AIG stock has risen 12.58% over the past six months.
  2. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE: GS): With a score of 49.39, Goldman is the only other company in the Harris survey with a reputation below the 50 critical level. Like AIG, Goldman is still living down the events of 2008. Of course, a public resignation letter from a former broker that depicted Goldman employees seeking out gullible clients they dubbed "Muppets" hasn't helped, either. But Wall Street loves its own, as Goldman stock has soared more than 27%.
  3. Halliburton Co. (NYSE: HAL): Oil services and infrastructure company Halliburton became famous as the beneficiary of government contracts in Iraq during the Bush administration. Apparently, it was just a coincidence that Vice President Dick Cheney had once served as the company's CEO. More recently, Halliburton has become a major provider of services in the controversial oil and gas fracking industry. Its reputation score was 52.51, placing it in the "very poor" category. However, Halliburton stock is up about 11%.
  4. Bank of America Corp. (NYSE BAC): While its score of 55.85 is still poor, Bank of America did escape the critical rank it had with last year's 49.85. But as one of the country's big banks, it's still struggling to regain the trust of an American public rattled by the financial crisis and the subprime mortgage debacle. Investors have had no trouble warming up to BAC, however, as it has zoomed more than 38% in the past six months.
  5. Citigroup Corp. (NYSE: C): Fancy that - another big bank among America's Most Hated stocks. Citigroup's reputation got tarnished with the other big financials back in 2008. Since then, Citigroup's shuffling of CEOs and losses of other key personnel have perpetuated the image of a bank that can't straighten itself out. Citigroup scored 55.90, slightly worse than last year's 55.95. But the stock is up more than 35%.
  6. JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM): You'd think JPMorgan would be more hated than several of the other big banks on the list, given the fallout from the London Whale trade, which has cost the bank at least $6.2 billion. But that issue just won't go away, so JPM could move up a few spots next year. Meanwhile, none of JPMorgan's tribulations deterred investors, who have pushed the stock up 18.9%.
  7. Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA): Given the vitriol directed toward the big cable companies, it's a bit surprising to see only one among the 10 most hated; even then, Comcast just barely made it as No. 10 with a score of 60.99. Then again, a recent MSN survey showed that almost 21% of the Comcast's customers rated its service as poor, a level of dissatisfaction exceeded by only two other companies. Investors have been far happier, racking up gains of more than 11%.

Curious about which company came in first in the Harris survey this year?

That would be Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN), which scored 82.62 - a mark that put it in the 80-and-above "excellent" category.

Amazon just barely edged out last year's champion, Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL), which slipped from 85.62 to 82.54.

5 Afghan police killed in suicide attack in east

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) ? Eight suicide bombers attacked a police headquarters in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad on Tuesday, killing five officers and wounding four others, a security official said.

An insurgent in a bomb-laden car detonated his vehicle in front of the Jalalabad Police Quick Reaction Force to start the attack, and another seven attackers wearing bomb vests then stormed the compound, police said. Three of those attackers blew themselves up inside the compound and the other four were shot by police during a gunfight that lasted more than an hour.

Nangarhar provincial police chief Mohammad Sharif Amin said some of the attackers were wearing uniforms resembling those worn by the U.S.-led NATO coalition.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack.

Jalalabad is the capital of Nangarhar province, about 120 kilometers (75 miles) east of Kabul.

The attack occurred on the second day of a visit to Kabul by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

Insurgents have in recent months been carrying out complex attacks involving car bombs and gunmen in bomb vests against government and police buildings around the country.

The attacks are expected to intensify as the traditional spring fighting season gets underway. Heavy snow and bad weather conditions usually put a damper on fighting during the harsh Afghan winter.

On March 14, the Afghan intelligence service seized a massive truck bomb packed with eight tons of explosives on the eastern outskirts of Kabul. They also killed five suspected suicide bombers and arrested two others during a raid to seize the truck.

The truck was apparently meant to carry out an attack on a NATO facility in the capital. According to Afghan intelligence, the truck bomb bore the hallmarks of the Haqqani network, which is known for conducting spectacular attacks.

Affiliated with the Taliban, the network is run by the Haqqani family and is based across the border in Pakistan.

What A Resume Should Look Like | Content for Reprint

Looking for a job is tough enough, but now they say you need this thing called a resume. I have heard about them from time to time; but never really needed one. At my age all I have ever done is to walk into a company and inquire whether they were hiring or not. If they were, I would just sit down and fill out an application, and probably interview right then and there and get hired right on the spot. I don't even know what a resume should look like. I do know that it doe's require some employment history; but, beyond that I really can't tell you. I would like to find a professional writer and have them take care of it for me since I need it to apply for a very special job.

I believe that I have found a really good resume writer, and have supplied her with all of the information that she has asked for. Of course, I had to give her all of my contact information; then she talked for quite a while about what I had accomplished over the years, I know that she was trying to get a grasp of my skills and knowledge. After this she wanted to go over all of my skills individually, I was impressed that she also utilized my transferable skills as well as my technical skills. I didn't realize how important these skills were, but when you think about it, it does make sense. Things that you have done all of your life are important with how you maintain your work habits such as your organizational abilities, whether you are a leader or a follower. Other things like, are you good at resolving problems or issues and how well do you communicate with others. There was a lot of information that I found out about myself and didn't even give it a second thought prior to this.

When all was said and done I picked up my brand new resume; I astounded myself with all that I could do. It is apparently just how you represent yourself on paper in a formal manner. It was beautiful, nice, clean and crisp with an attractive header with my name large and bold followed by my personal contact information then below that was my skill set all across the top in nice neat columns) which again, were my (transferable and technical skills) incorporated together. Then a very strong summary about what I had accomplished throughout my career. It was very powerful and to sum it up; it basically showed what I had to offer a company, what I had to put on the table and here is why you want to hire me!

Then this was all followed by my work history with small job descriptions followed by a couple of very appealing bullets of more notable accomplishments. They each had about 4-5 bullets for each position that I had held. We only went back three jobs, because that covered well over 13 years and there was no need to bore the employer with my earlier years; you can gain a lot of knowledge over ten years and that is about all that they need or want. Then education, and the last section covered was my community memberships, volunteer work and such; it looked really nice I must say.

When you looked at it you could see that the top half of this sold me! You could find exactly what you were looking for; if you were looking for specific skills or accomplishments you knew exactly where to look. I loved it? I will be honest with you, I could have never done this; hiring a professionals was the smartest move I have ever made because this is what a resume SHOULD look like.,

Physical activity during youth may help reduce fracture risk in old age

Mar. 23, 2013 ? Get out there and regularly kick that soccer ball around with your kids, you may be helping them prevent a broken hip when they are older, say researchers presenting their work at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine's (AOSSM) Specialty Day in Chicago, IL.

"According to our study, exercise interventions in childhood may be associated with lower fracture risks as people age, due to the increases in peak bone mass that occurs in growing children who perform regular physical activity," said lead author, Bjorn Rosengren, MD, PhD of Skane University Hospital, Malmo, Sweden.

Rosengren and his colleagues conducted a population-based controlled exercise intervention for six years in children age 7-9 years in Malmo, Sweden. In the intervention group 362 girls and 446 boys received 40 minutes of daily physical education at school. The control group of 780 girls and 807 boys received 60 minutes of physical education per week. Researchers registered incident fractures in all participants and followed skeletal development annually. During the time of the study there were 72 fractures in the intervention group and 143 in the control group resulting in similar fracture risks. The increase in spine bone mineral density was higher in both the boys and girls in the intervention group.

During this same time, researchers performed a retrospective cross-sectional study of 709 former male athletes with a mean age of 69 years and 1,368 matched controls with a mean age of 70 years to determine how many had suffered fractures and rates of bone density loss. Within the former athletes group, bone mass density dropped only minimally from +1.0 to +0.7 standard deviations compared to the control group.

"Increased activity in the younger ages helped induce higher bone mass and improve skeletal size in girls without increasing the fracture risk. Our study highlights yet another reason why kids need to get regular daily exercise to improve their health both now and in the future," said Rosengren.

(AP) ? Former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf said he doesn't fear arrest despite facing criminal charges as he vowed Saturday to return to his homeland and contest upcoming elections after more than four years in exile.

But legal problems are only one challenge facing Musharraf as the Taliban warned they have an assassination team ready to kill the one-time military strongman if he sets foot in the country on Sunday as promised.

Musharraf announced in early March that he would return to Pakistan to take part in upcoming elections, despite allegations he was part of a conspiracy to assassinate ex-premier Benazir Bhutto, militant threats to his safety and a waning popularity. The deposed general said he would lead his party in elections scheduled for May 11.

"I am going back to save Pakistan," he told reporters Saturday during a press conference in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.

Musharraf has earned a reputation as a strongman who cried wolf after failing to follow through on previous promises to return home, but the likelihood of his return this time got a boost on Friday when a Pakistan court granted him pre-emptive bail ? essentially preventing his immediate arrest ? in three cases in which he's implicated, including Bhutto's death. Under the pre-emptive bail, he has 10 days to appear in court, which Musharraf promised he would do.

"I will face these cases with bravery," he said. Musharraf said "elements in Pakistan and outside" were spreading rumors that he was not returning, but that the granting of the bail would address some of those concerns.

The former general plans to travel to Karachi from Dubai accompanied by journalists and supporters of his political party, All Pakistan Muslim League.

Musharraf took power in a 1999 coup after then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif attempted to dismiss the general while he was out of the country. Officers loyal to Musharraf put Sharif under house arrest. Upon return Musharraf took control of the government, eventually naming himself president in 2001. He ran the country for nearly a decade until he was forced to step down in 2008 after growing discontent with his rule.

His return comes as Pakistan faces a nationwide vote marking the first time an elected government has fulfilled its term and handed over power to another elected government. In a country that has undergone three coups, including Musharraf's, there are precious few democratic milestones. Pakistan is struggling with rolling blackouts, rising inflation and widespread security problems.

While he was given a reprieve from the legal charges, he received no such leniency from militants who have been gunning for him for years. Just hours after his announcement Saturday, the Pakistan Taliban released a video threatening to unleash suicide bombers and snipers against Musharraf if he comes back. One of the two people speaking in the video was Adnan Rashid, a former Pakistani air force officer convicted in an attack against Musharraf. The Taliban broke Rashid out of prison last year, along with nearly 400 other detainees.

"The mujahedeen of Islam have prepared a death squad to send Pervez Musharraf to hell," said Rashid, who spoke in the video in front of a group of about 20 militants holding rifles. "We warn you to surrender yourself to us. Otherwise we will hit you from where you will never reckon."

Musharraf had been expected to address supporters at a gathering Sunday in Karachi near the mausoleum of Pakistan's founding father Mohammed Ali Jinnah. But police decided to cancel his permit because of a "very serious threat," said Tahir Naveed, the deputy inspector general of Karachi police. He said Musharraf would be provided with an armored vehicle to protect him due to the threats. Banners and billboards welcoming Musharraf back to Pakistan lined the street from the airport where he is expected to land.

In the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks on the United States, Musharraf came under intense pressure from the U.S. to back the Americans in the coming war in Afghanistan and cut off ties with the Taliban, which he did. For that, militants as well as many other Pakistanis saw him as carrying out the American agenda in Pakistan.

He's also vilified by militants for ordering the 2007 raid against a mosque in downtown Islamabad that had become a sanctuary for militants opposed to Pakistan's support of the war in Afghanistan. At least 102 people were killed in the weeklong operation, most of them supporters of the mosque.

Militants tried to kill Musharraf twice in December 2003 in Rawalpindi, where the Pakistani military is headquartered. First they placed a bomb intended to go off when his convoy passed by. When that didn't work, suicide attackers tried to ram his motorcade with explosives-laden vehicles. The president was unhurt but 16 others died.

Musharraf faces charges related to Bhutto's 2007 assassination, as well the killing of Akbar Bugti, a Baluch nationalist leader who died in August 2006 after a standoff with the Pakistani military. In another case, he's accused of illegally removing a number of judges including the chief justice of the supreme court.

Musharraf has called the charges baseless.

Human Rights Watch called on the Pakistani government to hold Musharraf responsible for abuses committed while he was in office.

Although Musharraf comes from the military, analysts say it is unlikely that the military supports his return to Pakistan. The head of the army, Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, has shown a reticence to involve himself directly in politics.

Perhaps the biggest shock to Musharraf upon his return may be his lack of popularity. He appears to be banking on widespread voter disgust with the coalition government headed by Pakistan People's Party that just ended its five year term, but analysts say he has little support and will likely only win a few seats in parliament.

"He's always had a very high opinion of himself," said Talat Masood, a former Pakistani army general and political analyst. "He thinks he can play a major role, and he can be a savior to Pakistan."

Letter from DNA discoverer to be auctioned in NYC

(AP) ? Sixty years ago this month, scientist Francis Crick wrote a letter to his 12-year-old son saying he and a colleague had discovered something "very beautiful" ? the structure of DNA.

Now, the note and its hand-drawn diagrams are being auctioned off in New York.

Christie's estimates the letter could fetch $1 million or more at the April 10 sale.

Crick's letter describes to his son how he and James Watson found the copying mechanism "by which life comes from life." It includes a simple sketch of DNA's double helix structure which Crick concedes he can't draw very well.

Now-72-year-old Michael Crick said Saturday he immediately understood his father had made a breakthrough.

Half the auction's proceeds will benefit the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, Calif.

HTC One SV (Boost Mobile)

Some Boost Mobile users got a taste of 4G last year, when the carrier gained access to Sprint's abandoned '4G' WiMAX network. But now Boost has access to Sprint's speedy, shiny new 4G LTE network, which blows WiMAX away. It's still not available in most markets, but you should go for LTE if you're interested in a faster online experience in the future. Right now, the $299.99 HTC One SV is your best bet. It's a little pricey, but 4G LTE support, along with plenty of power and a high-quality, stylish design, make it our new Editors' Choice for smartphones?on Boost.

Design, Network, Plans, and Call Quality
The HTC One SV is the nicest looking phone on Boost, hands down. Sure, the flaming orangey-red color probably isn't to everyone's taste, but it's certainly eye-catching. The phone has a black, glass front panel, with red buttons and red detail on the earpiece speaker grille. There's a metallic-looking band around the slanted edge of the phone, separating the front from the polycarbonate back. At 5.04 by 2.63 by 0.63 inches (HWD) and 4.3 ounces, the phone will fit into most hand sizes like a glove.

The 4.3-inch, 800-by-480 Super LCD2 isn't the highest-resolution display available on Boost (that would be the 4 inch, 960-by-540-pixel panel on HTC's EVO Design 4G). But it gets super bright, and has excellent viewing angles, which make it great for multimedia. The three haptic feedback-enabled touch buttons below the display are responsive, and typing felt fine on the on-screen, Swype-enabled keyboard.

Boost uses Sprint's network, and the One SV is just one of two phones to feature 4G LTE support?if you can get it, that is. It's only available in a limited number of cities right now, so chances are you'll be stuck with significantly slower speeds until it comes to your town. In last year's?Fastest Mobile Networks?tests we found Sprint's 3G network to be the slowest of the nationwide networks. We got a chance to?test Sprint's 4G LTE network?and found it to be a vast improvement.

loading...

?

That said, if you fall into the limited LTE coverage zone, Boost offers some incredible deals. Monthly plans cost $55 per month, and get you unlimited talk, texts, and data. There is a slight catch on that unlimited data: After 2.5GB of full-speed data usage per month, your speeds will be throttled significantly until the end of your billing cycle. But your monthly payment reduces by $5 after every six months you pay your bill on time, until you reach $40 per month. $40 per month for unlimited everything is about as cheap as you can get.

Sprint LTE is limited in New York City, where we tested the One SV, so all of our tests were conducted over 3G. Call quality is average. Calls made with the phone sound clear and natural, with good noise cancellation. But earpiece volume is rather low, which made it difficult to hear calls I took outside. The speakerphone sounds loud enough to hear in the car, but not if you're driving with the radio on and the windows open. I had no trouble connecting to a Jawbone Era Bluetooth headset? and standard Android voice dialing worked fine. Battery life was good at 9 hours and 1 minute of talk time over 3G.

Android and Apps
The One SV is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm S4 processor. That's not as fast as the 1.5GHz dual-core chip in the Boost Force, though both phones turned in similar benchmark scores, and both perform admirably in day-to-day use. That makes the One SV one of the fastest phones on Boost. Combine that with 4G LTE or Wi-Fi and you should be very satisfied with the phone's performance.

Factbox: The Cyprus banks that have transfixed the world

By Laura Noonan

NICOSIA (Reuters) - All eyes in global banking have been fixated on Cyprus's two largest banks for the last week, as their near collapse, and the dramatic steps taken to avoid it, threaten the cornerstones of banking and the EU's single currency. Here are profiles of both banks.

Bank of Cyprus What: With a legacy stretching back to 1899, Bank of Cyprus is the island's largest. Its value peaked at close to 7.5 billion euros ($9.75 billion) in December 2007, but fell to 400 million euros by March 2013. Its business is largely retail banking in Cyprus and Greece, but it also has some investment banking, private banking and the Kermia Beach Bungalow Hotel in the Ayia Napa resort. It employs about 11,000 people.

Deposits: Just 10 percent of Bank of Cyprus's 27.8 billion euros of deposits are in units outside the euro zone. The Russian and UK units of Bank of Cyprus hold a roughly equal amount, at 1.2 billion euros. Deposits in Cyprus account for 66 percent of the bank's deposits, and deposits in Greece account for 23 percent. The figures are dated end-September 2012 and published in the bank's third quarter accounts. (Similar figures for Laiki are not available).

Where: Cyprus (52 percent of loan book), Greece (33 percent), and the rest Russia, Romania, Ukraine, Channel Islands, plus representative offices in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Ekaterinburg in Russia, Kiev in Ukraine, Belgrade in Serbia and Johannesburg in South Africa. The loan book percentages are as of September 30, 2012.

Who owns it: 2011 annual report shows 61 percent of its shares were owned by Cypriots and another 13 percent by Greeks. The remainder is listed as "other countries." Almost 80 percent of its shareholders were private at that point.

Why it's in trouble: It lost 1.6 billion euros on Greek bonds in 2011. Provisions for bad loans more than doubled to 800 million in the first nine months of 2012 as non performing loans shot up to 17 percent of its total book. Greece was the main driver of 2012's higher loan losses, with 436 million euros of provisions booked there.

Cyprus Popular Bank (Laiki) What: Founded more than 110 years ago, Laiki Bank Group stretches across 10 markets. Its market value hit more than 8.1 billion in November 2007, before falling as low as 170 million euros in March 2013. Retail and corporate/investment banking are the mainstays, but Laiki also has a wealth management business and other investments.

Where: Cyprus (43 percent), Greece (48 percent) United Kingdom, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Malta, Guernsey and a representative office in China. The loan book percentages are as of December 2011.

Who owns it: Republic of Cyprus holds 84 percent after a 1.8 billion euros bailout in June 2012. The rest is owned by around 92,000 private and institutional investors, according to information on the bank's website dated August 2012. More detailed information dating to December 2011 shows staff owned 2.45 percent of the bank, private individuals owned 37 percent and companies owned 54 percent.

Why it's in trouble: Laiki lost 2.3 billion euros on its Greek government bonds in 2011. Its results for the first nine months of 2012 showed loan losses provisions almost quadrupled year on year to 400 million euros.
